Emotions

I’m sure you’ve heard people say “you can’t enjoy the good without the bad,” “there is no light without darkness,” etc.

It’s not just a cliché! You need to feel the good and the bad. You need balance in your life. So next time you feel a negative emotion, such as sadness, anger, frustration, etc, know that it’s okay. Just be. Feel what you feel. It’s all valid. You don’t have to fight the bad. You don’t have to hurry up to get over it. Just be in it for a moment. Let it flow through you. Don’t overthink it. Don’t rush it. Don’t fake being happy. Sadness, grief, disappointment are all valid emotions that you need to feel.

And if you’ve ever let go of all your thoughts about emotions, I’m willing to bet you felt some good in the bad. If you’ve ever been at a funeral or something where you just let go of all worries about what others think. You just let the sadness and grief run through you. You cried and sobbed without concern for others. I bet you felt some love, satisfaction, or relief. For if there was not love, you would not feel such sadness for the loss. It is a relief to let it all out. Let go of your judgements & fear of what it means to feel those emotions. Just feel them.

Sadness is like the tide, it ebbs and flows. It is not necessarily in a constant state around you. It is okay to feel joy in your time of grief. It does not negate the greatness of your loss. It is okay to laugh and smile during times of sadness. Do not feel guilty for having positive emotions during a sad time. That is your ego creating fear in you. If I feel happy during this time of loss, then am I a bad person? Did I not love that person as much as I thought I did? What will people think if they see me smile or laugh when I should be sad and grieving?

Let. It. All. Go!

Get out of your head and tap into your heart! Anything that you feel is valid & you are allowed to feel it.

I’m not telling you to dwell in negative emotions. If you dwell in it, then it becomes a habit and then a personality trait. Then you’re no longer feeling sad or angry, you become a sad or angry person. The more you are negative, the more you’ll attract things that make you feel that way. Your body becomes addicted to the cortisol that comes with negative feelings, and it triggers your mind to think of things that make you more upset.

Feel the emotions, but don’t let them take over.

Feel the negative emotions, process them, then release them. Negative emotions that are never released are lessons missed. If you simply hold onto the negative emotions and let them take over, you never gained wisdom from the experience. Instead you stunted your emotional growth.

For instance, something happened 10 years ago, and you still feel the same negative emotions you felt at that time. Your emotional age is stunted. You’ve missed 10 years of wisdom because you refuse to process and release the negativity that came with that betrayal, loss, or tragedy. So again: feel it, recognize it, process it, and release it!

Take time to meditate and spend time connecting with your higher self. Take time to dance to positive music. Spend time in nature and get some vitamin d. These things will make you feel better, even if only temporarily during your grief. Make a habit of these practices and you will find yourself feeling positive more and more.

Move Your Body! Our body holds and stores our emotions and traumas. So if something traumatic happened to you, and you never gave yourself the space to truly feel it and heal from it, then it’s still trapped in your body. Move around to release it! Some people work out, some people use Yoga, and some people dance. Whatever you do, just make sure you move your body!

Always remember, you are worthy, you are blessed, and you are loved unconditionally!

Move around and release it indeed. I have so much gratitude for your reflections here. Without processing old grief and trauma I would still be physically ill. My goal in life is to beckon joy to the places we store anything not serving us in this surrendered sacred moment. Thank you for your light and your writing! 🌻
