Surrender

I’ve always taken pride in being a Giver. I’ve always taken pride in putting others first. I’ve always taken pride in my preference for giving over receiving. I love gift-giving holidays because it means I can give to others! I don’t care about receiving gifts. Every holiday, I tell my husband “let’s not exchange gifts this year.”

Does this sound like you?

If it does, you’re codependent. Don’t get mad at me, hear me out! I know it’s a hard pill to swallow, but it makes sense. Trust me.

Your need to give is codependent because your happiness is dependent on someone else’s happiness. You’re happy when someone else is happy, or when someone else has good feelings/thoughts of you. Joy is happiness that does not rely on outside circumstances. So if your happiness is always dependent on outside circumstances, then you never experience joy.

Preferring to give than receive is a sign that you want control. When you’re giving, you have full control of what is given. When you open yourself to receive, you don’t have control over what is given to you. It opens you up to possible disappointment or loss.

Your ego says “what if I love it and then it goes away?” “What if I receive something I don’t really love/want?”

BUT… what if you allow yourself to receive? Then you will continue to attract what you desire!

By no means am I telling you not to give. Giving is Living, so I would never ever tell someone not to give. However, if this is true, when you deny someone the ability to give to you then you are harming their life.

You need to open yourself up to receiving. From others and yourself.

If you want more love, show love to yourself. If you want to be appreciated by others, appreciate yourself.

If you say or think the following when someone tries to gift you something:

“I can’t accept this…”

“I don’t want to be a burden…”

“What if I can’t reciprocate…”

Then you are literally blocking yourself from receiving the abundance you say you want.

Think about it. If giving is living, then giving positivity is how we attract positivity. So, when we decline something that someone has offered us, we stopped them from giving. Therefore, we blocked them from attracting abundance to themselves.

You would never tell your friend that you don’t want them to have abundance, so why would you stop their flow of abundance by denying them the opportunity to give?

If someone offers to bring you soup when you’re not feeling well, say “wow, thank you so much!” This is a gift of surrender and puts out positive energy.

Have you ever given a compliment to someone and they say something like “no I’m not,” or “that’s not true.”? It probably made you feel bad. You wouldn’t ever want to make someone ese feel bad. So when someone gives you a compliment, say “aww thank you!”

Remember, how we receive something as simple as a compliment or love is the same for all that we desire.

I challenge you to open yourself to receive for a week. If you hate it & life doesn’t seem more beautiful and joyful, you are more than welcome to going back to your old ways. However, for a week I want you to say “Yes, thank you,” whenever someone offers you a gift, service, or compliment!

Surrender control & certainty!

With Love & Gratitude 💜✨
